Overview

Coming two years before the famed "Silent Hunter" Aces of the deep was a deep submarine simulation game. Coming at the tale end of Dynamix's period vehicle simulators (including "Red Barron" and "Aces of the Pacific") Aces of the Deep is a very polished simulation following in that tradition. The game starts with the player selecting a period of the Second World War to serve in. It is possible to play the game from the start of the war until the bitter end. The player takes command of a U-boat and attempts to fulfill optional missions including convey hunting and area patrols. The game gives the player command over every vital function of the U-boat including designating the speed, orientation, and depth of the boat. Furthermore the player is responsible for finding enemy ships through a periscope. These ships, and the waves of the sea, are beautifully (for the time) 3d modeled with an eye towards historical accuracy. Once a ship has been found the player must correctly calculate the run of torpedoes through a relatively deep targeting computer. The game includes a midi sound track of period accurate tunes. It also features a rather diverse range of sounds for the U-boat as well as adiqute, but limited, voices for various crew-members in BOTH German and English. All in all, Aces of the Deep succeeds in fostering the player to partake in a suspenseful naval adventure. With the ability to play in "iron man mode" the choice to "CRASH DIVE!" will enthrall the aspiring WWII Wolf-pack leader. Your accomplishments will be tracked versus a leader board that is historically accurate to other legendary commanders. Gain medals for your service and catch-up on the news at the local brothel in between patrols to get the latest scoop on where fertile hunting ground may be. HAPPY HUNTING!
