Overview
Abraxas Adventure #1: Assault on the Astral Rift is a 1 - 4 player RPG for the 8-bit Atari. An Astral Rift to a world of magic has opened near an old hotel. The evil sorcerer Xamplayn of the world of magic has begun to draw power from Earth through the Astral Rift, and if he is not defeated, both worlds will be destroyed. Professor Abraxas led a doomed party to investigate this other land, and only Abraxas, gravely injured, returned alive. Now, the player must control a party of 4 adventurers to defeat Xamplayn During character creation, the player creates 4 characters, consisting of the classes Linguist, Seer, Pathfinder, and Spellcaster. The player can give each character a name, and must choose set their strength, endurance, and ESP ability, with a total of 30 points. Players are moved from a top-down perspective, and the 4 characters can be moved independently, with the lead character controlling the camera. Each player has a psychic window displayed at the bottom of the screen, which demonstrates their remaining power. Each character possess several unique magic spells. Each player has an individual inventory, and can get or drop items. Games can be saved in progress. During combat, individual monsters appear on the screen, and can be engaged in combat.
