Alien Blitz

Alien Blitz

Alien Blitz is a clone of Space Invaders with no noticeable differences in design and gameplay. The player moves his missile base left and right and has to shoot down the alien intruders that move back and forth above him. If they reach the base line or if the player loses all his three bases the game is over. Four shields offer some protection and at times a flying saucer will zap past the top of the screen. Before starting a game the player can choose a skill level from zero to nine.

Amok is a variant of Berzerk. Amok is also the name of a space station located far out in space that the player has to make his way through. Like in Berzerk, the player controls his character from a top down perspective and can move and shoot in multiple directions. Each room is inhabited by a number of robots that have run amok and are trying to kill the player. In addition to the robots the player also has to avoiding running into walls that will kill him upon contact. The robots have different colours (green, blue, red, black) that indicate how many points they are worth. Green are worth only five points while the black ones are worth 35. After scoring 1500 points the player earns an extra life. The game consists of nine skill levels. An enhanced version called Super Amok was also released the same year.

Arachnoid is a fixed screen shoot 'em up where the player takes control of a spider that has to defend its eggs from hostile ants. The game is most similar to Centipede. The ants attack in rows, moving horizontally one line at a time until they get to the player who moves around in the lower sections of the screen. Unlike Centipede there are no obstacles when starting out, but as the player shoots his web at the ants a wall of webbing is created. These causes the ants to change their direction. In addition to ants there are gnats and flies that can carry ants and open up passages in the wall. There are also wasps that moves across the screen at times. The game goes on until the eggs hatch or they have all been taken by the ants. Once the eggs hatch the player moves on to a new and tougher level.

Defend yourself and your Earth base from the attack of deadly Acid Rain and pollution spawned mutant creatures called Cloud Hoppers. Cloud Hoppers and Acid Rain fall from a cloud covered, polluted sky and when the Cloud Hoppers land, they move along the surface to attack your defenses. Your only defense is a neutron tank, but you must be careful, as any contact with the Acid Rain or with the Cloud Hoppers is fatal. This was one of those rare VIC-20 games that actually had both cartridge and cassette releases

This is an update of Invader Fall, with the addition of terrain and a few gameplay tweaks. The object is to move your ship left or right, dodging invaders as they fall from the sky. A UFO will occasionally pass by, and if you don't move while it is on the screen, it will zero in on your ship and blast it. The invaders move faster as you progress through the game. Initially, the game ends when either you let an invader touch the surface or the UFO shoots you dead, but when you acquire enough shots you are given another chance.

The player controls a small spaceship which can move in all directions, and fires horizontally to the right. The player must shoot incoming purple alien ships while avoiding red asteroids. A small map shows the location of incoming vessels. The player starts with 3 vessels.

Motor Mania is a top view driving game where the screen scrolls vertically upwards as you try to drive your racing car for as many miles as you can. Starting at a gas station you are able to control your speed up to 80mph, brake and move left or right as you avoid other drivers and various obstacles. There are three types of roads to drive on and they are motorway, b-road and dirt and you must avoid hitting the sides and drivers or you lose one of five lives. On the side of the playing area are various dials and these are speedometer, fuel which decreases as you drive, and generator which shows your battery power and decreases if you don't drive full speed. You can also see your mileage driven, lives and if you have your spare tyre. Obstacles you encounter affect different aspects of your car and these are potholes which cause your steering to be erratic, road patches which slow you down, avalanches which means hitting a boulder loses you a life, and you will also encounter crossroads with vehicles moving across the screen which need avoiding. Broken glass means you will stop and your tyre will have to be changed with only one spare tyre, and logs will damage your radiator causing your car to overheat. Gas Stations appear occasionally and here you can refuel, fix your radiator and increase your battery power.

The play mechanic is a mix of many games; protecting your ground-based city with a moving crosshair is obviously Missile Command. However, the asteroids that drop on you break into two and then four pieces as in Asteroids. And the force field over a cityscape looks a lot like Imagic's Atlantis game.

Renaissance is a version of the board game Othello where the aim is to change all your opponents counters to your colour or have more counters on the board at the end of the game. To change the colour of your oppositions counters, you place a counter opposite another of your counters vertically, horizontally or diagonally with no set distance. Any opposition counters in between gets changed to your colour. You and the other player takes it in turns until the game has ended and the player with the most counters win. This version of the game has various options before and during play. You can choose a skill level of the computer (1-8), change colour, make the computer play a counter, take back a move, set the board into various situations and change the skill level. You use the joystick to move a cursor to place a counter.

Simple Simon is a interpretation of Ralph Baer's classic "touch" game of the '80, where the player needs to memorize a sequence of colors and tones and then press one of four function keys that are associated with that color and tone. As the player gets sequences correct, these sequences will become longer. The game ends if the player gets it wrong.

Spiders of Mars is a side scrolling shoot 'em up where the player controls a fly. Similar to Defender it is possible to move both left and right but here the objective is simply to destroy a number of creatures in each level. There are four different creatures with different behaviour but all lead to death upon contact: bats, dragonflies, wasps and spiders of Mars. Bats flutter about without shooting while dragonflies leave trails of deadly dust bombs which home in on the player. The wasps appear from the right and fire stings swiftly at the player. The spiders descend from the top and spin webs that prevent the player from moving. If they reach the ground they will start firing new webs upwards. The player has three lives and gets an extra one upon reaching 10,000 points.

You are trapped in a maze along with four aliens, which need to be destroyed by digging holes around the maze so that they can fall through them. Once an alien has fallen through one of these holes, you have a limited amount of time to seal it back up before the alien escapes. Once you have killed all aliens, you proceed to the next maze. You will be eaten by the aliens if you come into contact with them. Lose all your lives and the game is over.

Video Vermin is a 1-player Centipede clone for the VIC-20. Your once-peaceful garden is being invaded by a horde of hungry vermin. Shoot them, and their fallen bodies sprout a barricade of mushrooms to conceal more swarming raiders. Snails oil a path on which the vermin slither erratically toward you. Dropping butterflies leave a trail of mushrooms in their wake, and pouncing spiders, ants, beetles, and fleas infest the area. One vigilant gardener strikes first. If he's destroyed by the fatal touch of the invaders, two more defenders lie in wait to take his place. If the third gardener succumbs, and you have 10,000 points, another gardener will emerge to help you save the garden from devastation.
