Overview

In the future, humans have finally reached the surfaces of the other planets in the solar system. Eventually, a group called the Commune, based on a gigantic space station named Ondina, began to dominate the expansion of human colonies. A rebel group from Mars called the Inverse is trying to overthrow the Commune, using for that purpose the Cruise Chasers, space fighters that can transform into giant robots called with the help of a system known as Blassty. Cruise Chaser Blassty is a sci-fi role-playing game. The player controls an unnamed mercenary from Earth who eventually can choose to join either the Commune or the Inverse. The player navigates the protagonist in a mecha through pseudo-3D dungeon-like areas, fighting other robots in turn-based combat and gaining credits and experience. Missions can be received in populated areas, and the player-controlled robot can be customized. Notably, this is the debut of now-famous composer Nobuo Uematsu, collaborating with Takashi Uno. Blassty's legacy continues on as well, appearing as a cameo in several games, including as a boss in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
