Overview

The Maze of the Kings is a first person light gun rail shooter that takes place in Egypt. It features two adventurers, Linda and James who are out searching for treasure among the pyramids. The game consists of three stages and features a random map system where the route changes every playthrough. Most of the time the heroes travel on foot but there are also stages where they move around by boat or on camel back. Like in other rail shooters the movement through the levels is automatic and all the player has to do is aim and shoot at the various monsters that appear. The objective of the game is to collect the treasure located at the end of each stage. But to be able to do so a boss first has to be defeated and a mini game has to be played. The weapon used is a magical rod and before starting out a rod effect can be chosen. There are three different ones and they differ in power and the number of shots that can be made before reloading. There are also three different pieces of equipment to choose from. The helmet protects against flying enemies, the jacket protects against piercing attacks and the bracelet protects against fang and claw attacks. The equipment saves the player from one loss of life and is only recharged when a game is continued. The player has three life points and when they are all out the game ends unless the player chooses to continue. More lives can be earned by collecting stones that can be found in pots. The game can be played by one or two players. In the two player mode both players share the same screen and cooperate in shooting down the enemies. Players can here give lives to their partner of exchange rod effects.
