Overview
Wildwater simulates rowing on a narrow strip of river, with half the screen used for each of 2 available players (either human or computer). Both must clear 8 gates in order, with the first 7 randomly placed on each game, within a 5 minute time limit. Lots of backtracking is require to clear them in order, which puts a premium on careful boat control. Controls aim to realistically simulate the steering and navigation of a raft, requiring repeat pressing of a single key to turn, with variable speed and reverse rowing possible. Left and right oars look different to ensure that the player remains orientated. River currents are incorporated, mostly from east to west, complete with whirlpools, weirs and eddies, and visible splashes.
