The Great Treasure Hunt is an edutainment game involving the anthropomorphic duo Skipper and Skeeto, a mole and a mosquito respectively. The game begins with a cutscene in which the duo, whilst sneaking around an old castle, happen to come across a shady man, aptly named Mr. Shade, giving Count Noblecastle until the end of the day to pay him the money that he is due, otherwise he will take over Paradise Park. Once Mr. Shade leaves, Skipper & Skeeto overhear the count woefully remembering a story about an old treasure rumoured to be lying somewhere in his castle. Having heard this and wanting to save Paradise Park (the previous game featuring Skipper and Skeeto, Tales from Paradise Park, was set there), the duo decide to sneak through the castle's entrance and search for the treasure themselves. The game plays out very similar to a point-and-click adventure, with the duo having to explore the castle and find items throughout which can either be used directly or combined with other items to form new useful items. Certain parts of the castle are blocked off by ghosts at first, and the duo must lay them to rest by providing them with an item which they hold dear before they can access these areas. Other areas require the players to solve certain problems given to them, problems including mapping out the solar system or problems which require the player to make use of a periodic table. It is imperative that the player doesn't randomly move about the castle; every move must be calculated and one must make sure that they have extracted all that they can from the room that they are currently exploring. This is because the game has a time limit and each time Skipper and Skeeto move into a new room, time expires. Not all hope is lost though, as in certain rooms, by use of a magnifying glass, the duo can find artifacts which provide them with extra time. The game encourages the player to properly plan out the way the castle is explored so as to waste as little time as possible doing so. The game also challenges players to think critically and to remember, as certain information presented throughout the game will be required later on to solve riddles or to lay the ghosts to rest. Thus, the game encourages children to foster their creative thinking in order to be able to find the treasure, save Paradise Park, and complete the game.
