Lander (Simon & Schuster)

Overview

"Lander" is a game created by Henry Mullish and Herbert Cooper, featured in the book "Zappers for the Commodore 64." In this game, the player controls a space vehicle that is attempting to land on the planet Commodon. As the game begins, the landing vehicle is shown floating down in the center of the screen. Shortly after, it encounters oncoming meteors that are randomly positioned. The player must navigate through this meteor shower without colliding with any of the meteors to reach the planet's surface safely.

For each row of meteors successfully avoided, the player earns points, which are displayed at the top of the screen. An additional bonus is awarded for landing on the planet's surface without taking any damage.

The game offers five levels of difficulty. As the level increases, the density of the meteor cloud also increases, allowing players to earn more points. Level 1 is relatively easy, while Level 5 can prove to be extremely challenging.
