The player enters the old chateau where the Count who lived there died. He hid all his worldly goods in the house including a hoard of treasure. Each floor of the chateau is divided into a 5 x 5 grid, and an in game map tracks the current position and floor. All commands are via menu, and the player can move to a new room, open a door, explore the area for treasure (or encounter traps), check their status, or review the floor plan. The player needs to collect specific items which allow them to explore new areas or combat monsters. Failure in combat or stumbling over traps can cause the player injury, and if health drops to 0 it's game over.
