Overview
Quantum is a color vector arcade game based around the concept of quantum physics. On a single screen, the player directs a probe with a trackball to encircle atomic particles for points while avoiding other particles. Utilizing the arcade machine's trackball, players aim to encircle colorful dots known as Nuclei. The Sparkler the player controls leaves behind a long yellow line that can capture and dismiss any object that it encircles, a level cleared once all Nuclei are captured and additional points are rewarded if multiple targets are ensnared at once. As the player reaches later stages, more dangers are added, such as fast moving Photons that fly across the screen, Pulsars that extend out arms of deadly light, and purple Splitters that break apart into additional dangers.
Touching anything save for the small harmless Electrons will cause an instant loss of life, but players can start from different levels on a new credit. The goal of Quantum is to earn as high a score as possible, and if you achieve the top score in the rankings, you will even be able to leave a signature written with the trackball instead of just three initials. Bonus points are provided every time 25,000 points are scored.
