Overview
Super Keirin is a bicycle racing game based specifically on keirin cycle racing, produced by the Japan Keirin Association. Keirin races are professional bicycle races held on an oval track; at the start of a race, competitors must remain behind a pace cyclist, which gradually increases in speed before leaving the track in the latter part of the race when the competitors sprint for final position. Races have a field of 9 competitors and take place on tracks either 333m, 400m, or 500m in length.
The game includes a single race mode for up to four human players against the computer, a basic career mode, a watch mode, and a database of information on real-life keirin tracks. It was a promotional item given away at Keirin events related to the sport's 50th anniversary in 1998, and was never sold at retail.
