Overview
Dragon's Dream is an online multiplayer dungeon-crawler RPG which operated from December 1997 through September 1999. Comparable to classic Wizardry games, players form a party of up to four adventurers, then enter a tile-based dungeon searching for loot, fighting monsters in a turn-based format, and ultimately attempting to complete various quests. During crawls, each player controls one character in the party and can communicate with each other via text chat. There are five different classes and eight playable races to choose from.
Outside the dungeon, numerous locations are available in the town which provide specific functions; for example, the tavern lets players chat and form parties, the guild lets players create characters and accept mission requests, and the post office lets players send messages directly between one another.
The game client was available in limited quantities for free by mail to owners of certain Sega Saturn accessories, and later a PC version was released for free download; graphics and sound varied, but both versions had identical gameplay, and players on either platform could play together. Both versions required both a monthly subscription fee and a per-minute service fee. Game service ended on October 1st, 1999.
