Overview
Habitat II, later rebranded Habitat II: Elysium, is an online virtual world and a follow-up to Fujitsu Habitat, refreshing the experience with new graphics and events and bringing the service to home console for the first time. Players create a custom avatar and hang out in the city Elysium with other players. The focus is on social interaction with other players and avatar customization; one can chat with other players in the same area, and there are numerous shops around the game world where the new clothing and accessories can be acquired. There are also various simple minigames, such as a dice game for multiple players, and special events held by the service operators.
The computer versions of the game were distributed as a free download, while the Sega Saturn version was only available packaged together with the Saturn Keyboard peripheral, and never sold as a separate release. All versions required a monthly subscription and per-minute service fee, and players from all platforms could play together in the same game world. Service ended in August 1999.
