Overview
The game is a straight-forward port of Adventure Island II. Though due to the MSX's limitations and the game's cartridge only being 128kB (Half of Adventure Island II which is 256kB). Several things from the original game are cut, such as the selection screen which allows you to choose the dinosaur you want to equip, only half of the game's stages are present as well. Notably, "Adventure Kid" is a lot more smug than Master Higgins from the original game.
You play as the titular "Adventure Kid" as you complete stages while avoiding various enemies and obstacles that cross your path as well as keeping your life bar from being empty. In each stage, you have to get to the map to end it. After you beat it, you enter a bonus stage where you choose an egg and depending on whichever one you choose, you can get anything from 100 points to an extra life. You can use various weapons to kill enemies. On default, you have a hatchet which shoots in an arc. Unlike the original game, you can also get either an arrow which shoots straight, or a boomerang that comes back to you.
To keep your life bar from going down, you need to collect fruits for it to stay up. If it goes empty, then you will lose a life. Some items such as steak can increase your life bar a lot faster. Eggs are also scattered around the stages which can give you a weapon, milk which gives you more energy and a dinosaur which allows you to traverse levels easier. There are multiple types of dinosaurs, one that allow you to attack, one that can touch lava, one that can go underwater (which is notably a turtle instead of a dinosaur), and one that allows you to fly as much as you want to.
