Overview

The Dark Tower is a side-scrolling adventure game for the Apple II which was released by Scholastic as part of the Tales of Fantasy two-pack along with The Frog and the Fables. Long ago, mighty King Arthur ruled over the warring tribes of Britain with his Knights of the Round Table. Tales tell of their brave deeds, but none have found his castle nor the treasures within. Near the end of your family vacation through Britain, your family visits the city of Cornwall. Tired of visiting antique shops, you wander off into the nearby countryside. As you hike through the countryside, you end up lost in a fog-filled valley. As you hike up a nearby hill to get above the steam, you sight a magnificent castle. As you approach, the drawbridge lowers, and you enter. A side-scrolling adventure game, The player uses the keyboard to command the on-screen character. The player must tell the character which direction to face, as well as whether to walk or run. The character can additionally jump and climb staircases. The player must gather items, and use them to solve puzzles. The ultimate goal is to find a sword and defeat the dragon which guards King Arthur's crown jewels. Along the way, the player will encounter Merlin and a variety of ghosts.
