Overview
Operation: Aliens adapts the short-lived 1992–1993 Aliens animated toy concept produced by Fox and Kenner, itself derived from James Cameron’s 1986 film. Players take the role of a Colonial Marine trapped in an infested complex, battling waves of Xenomorphs to reach the Alien Queen’s lair and destroy the hive.
The player controls a lone Marine viewed from a behind-the-back perspective in a corridor that narrows toward the top of the screen, creating an illusion of depth uncommon in LCD games. Using the directional pad, the Marine shifts left or right to dodge and align shots, while the Attack button fires the pulse rifle and Pick collects dropped power-ups or ammunition.
Enemies include chestbursters, facehuggers, adult Xenomorphs, and the towering Alien Queen, each appearing in preset attack lanes that demand precise timing to defeat. The Weapon and Energy meters on the screen’s sides indicate ammunition reserves and player health. Clearing a wave advances to deeper levels of the hive, while losing all energy triggers a “Game Over” sequence featuring the Marine’s defeat.
