Overview
Swamp Thing follows the titular DC Comics hero as he defends his Louisiana swamp from scientists and monsters threatening the natural world. Players guide Swamp Thing through infested forests and marshes, battling strange mutant creatures and rescuing captured allies caught in the chaos.
The player moves Swamp Thing left and right across a horizontal stage, engaging enemies as they appear from both directions. The directional pad controls movement and crouching actions—labeled Run and Bend/Pick—used to avoid attacks or collect power items. The two yellow buttons, Punch/Fire and Throw, serve as offensive actions.
Gameplay alternates between combat waves and brief rescue or collection sequences. Enemies include humanoid agents, swamp beasts, and mutant reptiles, each requiring different timing to defeat. A Power and Life meter at the top of the screen display Swamp Thing’s remaining energy and attack charge. Losing all life points ends the game.
