Overview
R-Zone: Batman Forever places the player in control of Batman navigating urban environments to stop villains from executing their schemes. The mission includes chasing, dodging enemy traps, and defeating foes within the limitations of the R-Zone’s LCD mirror projection system.
The R-Zone’s cartridge contains a transparent LCD panel that gets reflected via a mirror to the player’s eye. Using direction controls, Batman moves through layered screen zones, avoiding hazards and enemies. The player triggers attacks or gadgets via action inputs when enemies appear in reach. As levels progress, enemy patterns intensify, requiring sharper reflexes and anticipation. The system displays animated segments of Batman, enemies, projectiles, and damage indicators by activating or shading pre-drawn LCD cells.
Some rounds end with mini-boss or theme-relevant encounters, and timing is essential to avoid overlapping attacks from multiple directions. Lives are limited, and failing them forces a restart.
