Overview

Clipper is a 1-player strategy game for the 8-bit Atari. The year is 1850, and you have been commissioned to sail a Yankee Clipper from New York to San Francisco via Cape Horn. At the beginning of the game, the player must choose their ship, the amount of cargo to carry, the number of hands to hire, and the amount of provisions to stock. During sailing, the player must set their direction, and sail. They receive updates on their longitude, and latitude. There is an overlying map of the Americas, but sailing decisions are made from the deck view. The player must deal with crew mutinies, dangerous sailing conditions, navigation blunders, and other dangers of the sea. The goal is to make a tidy profit at the end of the trip.
