Overview
Grand Lizard, released by Williams in April 1986, is known for its jungle theme, fast gameplay and pioneering audio. According to programmer Ed Suchocki, “Bill Parod was the sound designer on this game. The background drum music was the first time that Williams games used digitized audio samples for music. After Bill worked on Grand Lizard, he improved his technique of digitized music samples on the High Speed pinball game.”
Designed by Barry Oursler and Python Anghelo, with art contributions from Anghelo and Paul Faris, the game features both upper and lower playfields. Key features include two flippers, three pop bumpers, drop targets, and a distinctive Magna-Save function, which allows players to save their ball using side buttons when they spell "L-I-Z-A-R-D". A plastic lizard (or dragon) head sits atop the ramps; when a ball enters, the creature "roars" and its eyes flash, returning the ball to the playfield through its tongue.
2,750 units were manufactured.
