Overview

Caterpillar is a 1-player Centipede clone. While doing a spot of gardening, the player notices an assortment of creatures attacking their strawberries. The player picks up a spray can of insecticide and attacks them. To the player's horror they fight back, and the player is fighting for their life. The player controls a character that moves in all directions at the bottom of the screen and fires vertically. A large caterpillar enters from the top of the screen moving laterally, and when it hits an obstacle it moves down one row and reverses direction. When the player shoots a caterpillar, it breaks into multiple pieces that continue to move. When all caterpillar segments are destroyed, the player moves on to the next stage. Spiders move across the bottom of the screen to threaten the player. Fleas drop mushrooms as they fall to the bottom of the screen. Scorpions move laterally across the screen. The player starts with five lives, and advances to the next level by killing all centipede segments on the screen.
