Overview
Half-Life 2: Episode Two is a single-player first-person shooter game. The story continues directly after the events of Half-Life 2: Episode One. Dr. Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance narrowly escape the destruction of City 17 and the collapse of the Citadel. Carrying a stolen data packet vital to humanity’s survival, the two must travel across hostile territory toward the White Forest resistance base, where a group of surviving scientists work to mount a counter-offensive. Along the way, they are pursued by the Combine, who aim to prevent the data from reaching the resistance enclave.
Gameplay once again places the player in control of Gordon Freeman, whose arsenal and core mechanics remain largely the same as in previous entries. Weapons, including the Gravity Gun, pistol, shotgun, crossbow, and pulse rifle, are obtained over the course of the game and used against a mix of familiar Combine soldiers, alien wildlife, and new enemy variants such as the fast-moving Hunter. Combat emphasizes tactical use of cover, weapon variety, and the manipulation of physics objects in the environment.
