Alphabear is a word construction game that involves growing bears. The game is played on a 6x7 grid filled with letter tiles. The game starts with a small bear in the middle. By creating words of three letters of more, they disappear from the board and points are scored. If the letters on the side of the bear are used, immediately next to it, the letters are not replaced and the bear grows instead, taking up the freed space. At the end of the game a large amount of points is awarded based on the size of the bear. Each letter tile has a number in the bottom right corner that counts down with each turn. If they are not removed before the number reaches zero, the tile turns into a rock and can no longer be used. This can also split up the bear into smaller bears, with a lower score at the end. Words can be created with any letter of the board, regardless of the position. Letters are selected by tapping them and the word appears at the bottom of the screen with the score next to it. It is possible to undo a selection and try a new word. The game also shows if the word exists or not. The game ends when there are no more words left. By winning games different types of bears can be unlocked. Up to three can be selected before starting a game with a cooldown time. They provide bonuses such as a multiplier for the final score, a bonus for making a specific word etc. The game is free-to-play with two types of currencies: honey and coins. Honey acts as an energy/stamina system to keep on playing. Coins can be used to buy honey. Honey can also be earned by watching a video and an infinite supply is available for a one-time fee. There are different game modes such as reaching a certain score with or without a time limit, getting words of a certain length etc.
