Overview

Catan is an official translation of the German board game Die Siedler von Catan (The Settlers of Catan). This mobile version follows the rules of the game exactly. The basic version features only the core game; the "Cities and Knights" and "Seafarers" expansion packs can be bought as in-app purchases. In the game up to four players (hot-seat multiplayer or AI players) compete in settling an island. Players can found villages and build roads and must try to control a steady income of resources to further expand their colony. Various achievements are worth points and the first player to hit the set point limit wins the game. The expansions add more distinct types of cities, naval trade routes and barbarian invasions. Aside from the normal free play mode, this version also includes a campaign mode (for both the expansions as well). The campaign mode features some levels with slightly altered rules, such as undiscovered territory on the map. The game features alternatives to random dice throw for resources, which makes the outcome less random and ensures all values always appear in accordance with their probabilities. It's also possible to enable a resource bonus to any player who hasn't received any in five turns. These options are only available in free play.
