Overview
Danger Express is an unreleased 1992 arcade prototype developed by Atari Games. The story follows one or two government agents tasked with stopping a criminal organization that hijacks a high-speed train transporting secret cargo. The action begins aboard the train and expands into other locations, including casino halls, industrial freight sections, and urban alleyways, as the agents pursue the syndicate’s leader through a chain of interconnected missions.
The game mixes hand-to-hand brawling with firearm combat in a forward-scrolling 3D corridor view. The digitized actors and pseudo-3D perspective create a semi-realistic, “live-action” look that places players behind their characters rather than side-on, setting it apart from the usual arcade beat ’em ups of the period.
Players move left and right within the corridor while advancing into the background, fending off enemies who charge from doorways or side passages. Combat alternates between punches, kicks, and the use of weapons such as pistols or electrically charged nunchaku. Some segments introduce timed objectives, requiring players to clear an area before a bomb detonates.
