Shaking the Hive is the second episode in the Blues and Bullets noir series that follow the story of Eliot Ness and Al Capone, the two nemeses that ended up teaming in order to find out what happened to Capone's granddaughter Sophia. The story continues where the first episode, The End of Peace, left off, with Ness and Capone's good Milton on their way to meet Ivankov. The ship wasn't at the docks, instead a submarine emerged. The meeting took place, and for a while it was smooth, but didn't take long before things went south. All hell broke loose and Ness had to fight his way through all Ivankov's henchmen and catch him before he escapes. Alone, seeing how Milton doesn't like guns and only helps with fists. Ivankov is now a human trafficker who among many others had Sophia, Capone's granddaughter who he caught at client's request. Capone's way of questioning is beat to a pulp first ask questions later, which may not work in this situation, so Eliot had to step in. While next clue to finding Sophias was given, Ivankov's bodyguard appeared and killed him. The bodyguard is big and very resilient and seems like he might be connected to the cult that has Sophia. During flashback story elements we find out more about Eliot's and Delphine's relationship. They were lovers and the player has a choice to break it off and even confess the relationship to Eliot's close friend, Jim, or keep quiet until Jim dies in the conflict with Capone. There are also a couple of times where Eliot is presented to kill one of the badguys or spare their life that may steer the course of his conscious and nightmares. Similar to the previous episode, the game has an adventure mode where Eliot can slowly walk and look around at objects or talk to people, and an action mode which is worked as cover-based shooter. The newly introduced gameplay element is Eliot's nightmare which plays entirely using a first-person perspective. The episode ends up with Ness, Capone, and Milton escaping from the zeppelin hotel while fighting mafia that wants Capone dead. During the daring escape shootout, the player gets to control both Ness and Capone. While they made it to the rope car, another strange creature that looks like Ivankov's bodyguard attacked them which cost Milton his life. Now, Eliot and Capone are left on their own, and Eliot brings him back to the Blues and Bullets diner as it seems to be a good hiding place. But when they arrive, Eliot finds a small package on the floor with gruesome content. A message ... or a warning. They seem to be running out of time if they want to find Sophia in one piece.
