Overview

The classic title from the Nintendo 64 has been given a breath of fresh air with the unofficial pc port! After a data leak of some key files from Nintendo in 2020, code named "Gigaleak", the Zelda fan community was able to decompile The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and recompile it for modern operating systems. To avoid legal issues the user is required to provide the N64 rom needed for the application to function. There are 2 established PC ports available: Open Ocarina and Ship of Harkinian. The latter being more popular and feature rich. The name of SoH is a reference to King Harkinian, Zelda's father in the Legend of Zelda CD-i games. The original game on the Nintendo 64 ran at 20fps. Even with emulation that limit is hard locked. The N64 resolution was only 320 by 240. Through the PC port, it’s now possible to run at high resolutions and framerates. This includes 120fps support as well as ultrawide support. Other modifications are also possible such as high resolution texture packs like “Ocarina of Time Reloaded” and quality of life improvements such as the ability to change the speed of scrolling text, and assigning camera controls to the right stick. There are even mods that swap all the assets and textures to that of the 3DS remake.
