beatmania IIDX 5th Style: New Songs Collection

The home console (CS) release of Beatmania IIDX 5th Style: New Songs Collection on the PlayStation 2 introduced major additions and quality-of-life changes compared to previous entries and the arcade version.

* Gameplay & Quality of Life Upgrades

- On-the-Fly HI-SPEED Changes: This is the first console version that allows you to change your HI-SPEED settings directly from the song selection list without having to exit to the options menu.

- Expanded HI-SPEED Options: It adopted the arcade version's expansion of speed modifiers, going up to HI-SPEED 3.

- AUTO-SCRATCH Modifier: A new option was added that automatically plays the turntable notes, allowing players to focus strictly on the 7 keys.

* New Game Modes

- BEGINNER MODE: Making its console debut, this mode lets newer players learn the game using simplified Level 1 to 3 difficulty charts for most songs.

- DRILL MODE: Introduced to provide players with short, specialized gameplay challenges to test and sharpen their skills.

- SURVIVAL MODE: This console edition was the last in the franchise to feature this endurance mode, where you attempt to survive all 64 songs back-to-back.

* Content & UI Redesigns

- Song List Overhaul: True to its title, the game includes all 35 new tracks from the arcade edition, older revival tracks, and 11 exclusive console original songs.

- Difficulty Kanji Ratings: Instead of standard numbers, this version uniquely utilizes specific Kanji characters to rate difficulty (e.g., 極 for Level 7 and 禁 for Flashing 7/7+).

- Independent Chart Balancing: Single (SP) and Double (DP) charts are now rated independently from one another to better reflect their actual difficulty.

* Hardware Support

- PS2 Hard Drive Cache: This is the only console game in the series to support the official PlayStation 2 Hard Drive attachment, which cached data to drastically reduce loading times.
