beatmania IIDX 9th Style

Overview

The defining changes and features introduced in the 9th Style console release include:

* Visual & Interface Enhancements

- First "High Resolution" Console Game: This release completely upgraded the UI resolution, offering significantly sharper, cleaner menu text and graphics than any previous PS2 entry.

- Main Menu Integration: Gameplay modes (like Arcade, Free, Beginner, and Class Mode) were fully integrated into a singular main menu screen rather than being separated across disjointed titles.

- Song Selection Folders: It adopted the arcade’s highly anticipated folder system, allowing players to sort the tracklist by version style, difficulty level, and alphabetical title.

- Custom Favorites Folder: Players could navigate to a dedicated settings menu to flag specific tracks, creating a custom "Favorites" folder for quick access.

* Gameplay Modifiers & Chart Upgrades

- Double BEGINNER Charts: For the first time in the entire franchise (arcade or console), Konami introduced Double Beginner charts, allowing newcomers to practice using two turntable controllers simultaneously at an easy pace.

- Dedicated 5-Key Modifier: The legacy "5-Key Mode" was formally retired and replaced with a flexible 5-key modifier. This allowed players to apply 5-key gameplay constraints to any standard song chart on the fly.

- Effector Options Retained: Unlike its arcade counterpart—which notoriously stripped away hardware sound effectors—the PS2 version safely retained full effector audio options.

* Playlist & Content Highlights

- Packed Tracklist: The game packed 67 songs, consisting of 60 arcade ports and 7 console-exclusive original tracks.

- Home-Exclusive Talent: The CS originals featured major contributions from popular Bemani console staples like L.E.D., GUHROOVY, and Megumi Upper-Slope.

- Pop'n Music Collaboration: It included a special crossover track, Sympathy, pulled directly from Konami's sister rhythm game franchise, Pop'n Music.
