Planetary Annihilation

Overview

The original 2014 version of Planetary Annihilation was delisted on Steam on September 5th, 2018. This release was replaced by Planetary Annihilation TITANS, the 2015 expansion that includes the full, original game. On September 5th, the team made a Steam Community post explaining the decision: “In looking to the future, Classic Planetary Annihilation has been removed from sale. This will not impact existing players, the game will remain in your Steam library and Classic PA players will still be able to upgrade to TITANS at the permanent 90% off discount. New players will only see TITANS in the store, which is both backwards compatible with Classic PA lobbies and also supports switching to classic mode to host classic games. Classic PA will continue to receive updates, including the new simulation performance improvements with multithreading that Sorian is working on.” It may be unrelated to the delisting but it is worth noting that in August of 2018 the game’s developer, Uber Entertainment, changed their name to Planetary Annihilation Inc. ---- Planetary Annihilation is a large-scale real-time strategy game in which the player commands an army of robots across one or more planets. The game is the spiritual successor to Supreme Commander and Total Annihilation with developers from both games. The focus of the game is on multiplayer, but it supports a skirmish mode where the player is pitted against AI-controlled opponents. The player can build an army on (or under) the water, on land, in the air, and even in orbit. Strategy include both battles and resource management. Battles can include up to ten players in free-for-all or playing as teams. There is a competitive one-on-one ladder where the player can compete against the best players in the game. The art style focuses on a low-poly 'boxy' look, and features various distinct biomes for each planet and procedurally generated content.
