Overview

For centuries, the island nation of Yamato has been home to elite warriors, musha, who wield unfathomable power through intelligent mechanical suits of armor named tsurugi. In order for a warrior to become a musha, they must swear to their tsurugi an unbreakable oath that binds them together. In the 20th century of this world, Yamato is ruled by the Rokuhara Shogunate, a feudal military dictatorship who enforces their rule with a brutal and merciless efficiency. During an attack on a village accused of harboring a traitor to the Rokuhara, the entire area is wiped out - Rokuhara and villagers alike - by a mysterious tsurugi known as Ginseigo, the Silver Star. In its wake, Ginseigo is pursued by our protagonist, Kageaki Minato in the crimson tsurugi Muramasa - though Minato is no hero, for his weapon demands the price of innocent blood in exchange for its terrible power. Full Metal Daemon Muramasa is a dark fantasy visual novel which explores themes of morality, duty, and honor through the lens of an alternate-history Japan. As a visual novel, the player is periodically tasked with making a choice that will influence the development of the story. The plot is also influenced by the player's relationship with certain characters, which is measured by an "affection meter" that changes depending on how the player interacts with them. The story can branch into one of three primary routes depending on the player's decisions. It has a few short scenes with sexual content. Unlike "ADV" or "NVL"-style visual novels which display the text in a box at the bottom of the screen, the text in Muramasa is presented in the traditional tategaki form, arranged in vertical columns in a box at the center of the screen. In the English localization, the text is displayed from left-to-right in a vertical box at the center of the screen.
