Aegis Wing is a side-scrolling shooter originally created by three Microsoft interns. The player controls a small ship in epic battles against countless alien foes. In addition to enemy fighters the player must also contend with mines and other obstacles as well as imposing boss invaders that guard the end of certain levels.

The game also features four players cooperative mode where players can attach their ships to the leading one and become independent, 360-degree gun turrets. There are also four super weapons the player can pick up after defeating enemies: Arcus Missile, Hades Beam, Gorgon Burst, and Lambda Shield.
