Overview
This cancelled update of the classic Frogger almost left the Game Gear on a pretty lonely pile of systems which never received their requisite amphibian auto dodger. It was set for release in the United Kingdom in November 1991, but the port was ultimately scrapped - it is rumoured that licensing issues caused this.
Thankfully, the release of a completed prototype in April 2003 rescued it from that cruellest of fates.
A separate Frogger game for the Game Gear believed to have been in development around 1998 by Majesco, who had been responsible for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy and Game Boy Color versions of 1997's Hasbro Frogger (more commonly known as Frogger; He's Back!) for Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Windows, also never materialised into a final game.
Nothing has surfaced of this project except for one screenshot on the back of the Majesco rereleased Game Gear box, which entered production around 1999/2000. This screenshot could also potentially be from the original 1981 arcade release of Frogger, or the 1998 Majesco Frogger released for the Sega Genesis, so the game very well could never have entered development at all.
