Overview
ASCII's Best Play series marks its first entry on the Famicom. Like the Best Play computer games that came before it and unlike most baseball games on the Famicom, in Best Play Pro Yakyuu, you are not the players on the field, you play as the coach of a team. Before a game, you are responsible for choosing players for a team and arranging the batting order. During a game, you can make calls with the D-pad to steal bases, sacrifice bunt (as the batting side), throw fastball, walk the batter or watch out for a base steal, supposedly to intercept the stealing runner to out him (as the fielding side). You can also make substitution calls mid-game. The game records player statistics for you to make these calls on. The save system of the game is provided via the Turbo File external peripheral that connects to the Famicom's expansion port.
The game received a roster update re-release titled "Shin Data" three months after the initial launch.
