Overview
Time Pilot is a multidirectional scrolling shooter in which the player pilots a futuristic fighter through five periods of aerial warfare. The fighter remains near the center of the screen while the surrounding sky scrolls in whichever direction it is facing. It can turn through eight directions and fire straight ahead, allowing enemies to be pursued or attacked while circling around them. Contact with another aircraft, a projectile, grenade, bomb, or missile destroys the current fighter.
Each period contains numerous ordinary enemies accompanied by occasional formations and more powerful aircraft. An indicator records progress toward the required number of kills. In the arcade version, destroying 56 standard enemies causes the period’s mothership to appear; striking it seven times opens a time warp to the next era. Destroying every aircraft in a formation awards a bonus, while flying into parachuting pilots rescues them for progressively greater point values during the same life.
