Overview
Amidar is a fixed-screen maze game in which the player completes rectangular sections of a grid while avoiding patrolling enemies. Stages alternate between a gorilla collecting coconuts and a paint roller covering the maze’s paths. Encircling a rectangle fills it in, and completing every rectangle advances to the next stage. The paint roller must work outward from completed areas; if it travels too far without closing a rectangle, its unfinished paint disappears.
Most enemies follow predictable paths, automatically taking available turns as they travel between the top and bottom of the maze. A special Tracer initially circles the perimeter before following the player’s route through the grid. The action button causes every enemy to jump, allowing the player to pass underneath; three uses are available and replenished after completing a stage or losing a life. Completing the four corner rectangles temporarily allows the player to knock enemies from the maze by touching them.
