Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- was released to Japanese arcades in 2014 as the first game in the Xrd series, following the storyline from the previous installment, Guilty Gear 2: Overture. Developed using Unreal Engine 3 on Sega's RingEdge 2 arcade board, with support for the ALL.Net P-ras MULTI Ver.2 system, the 2D fighter was praised for its cel-shaded graphics and approachable gameplay, but criticized for its non-interactive story mode and smaller roster of characters. The game's port to the PlayStation branch was first available in November 2014 through a PS Plus demo on PS4. Weeks later, it was released for both PS4 and PS3 and was followed by a North America-exclusive limited edition. Europe saw a digital-only release in June 2015 and it was brought to Microsoft Windows via Steam in December of that same year.
