Rally-X

Rally-X is a top-down maze-chase driving game in which the player steers a continuously moving car through a multidirectional scrolling network of roads. The objective of each round is to collect all ten checkpoint flags while avoiding enemy cars that pursue the player. Stationary boulders obstruct some routes, and colliding with either an enemy car or a boulder costs a life.

The player can release clouds of smoke behind the car, temporarily causing pursuing vehicles that drive through them to spin out and stall. Fuel steadily decreases throughout each round, and producing smoke consumes it more quickly, requiring the player to balance defensive use of the smoke screen against the need to conserve fuel. Running out of fuel does not immediately end the round, but the player’s car slows considerably and can no longer release smoke.
