Overview
University student Yuya Amakusa is an aspiring photographer hoping to make it his career. While traveling in the northern Tohoku region of Japan to get photos for an upcoming photo contest, he meets a girl named Tokiko and asks her to be the model for his photography, and the two of them start to become friends. If Yuya does not place in the contest, he'll be forced to give up his dream of becoming a professional photographer and instead take over his family hanafuda card business. Tokiko, meanwhile, has some secrets of her own...
Michinoku Hitō Koi Monogatari is a romance adventure and hanafuda card game following the travels of Yuya and Tokiko across northern Japan. Yuya needs to regularly take photos to fill out his gallery, and in many locations can ask Tokiko to pose for the camera. Occasionally, the two will play games of hanafuda card games Koi-Koi or Hana-Awase, with the contents of the photo decided by whoever wins the game.
Each release of the game has the same story and gameplay, but features some minor changes. The Sega Saturn version of the game includes some illustrations that are redrawn to be more risque than the original release, though nothing explicit or adult.
