Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness

Makaimura Gaiden: The Demon Darkness is an action-adventure game and a prequel to Gargoyle's Quest, following Firebrand before the events of the original Game Boy title. A mysterious Black Light has spread across the Ghoul Realm, draining the land of its magic and leaving destruction in its wake. Firebrand, a young gargoyle training to become a warrior, leaves his home in Etruria to discover the source of the disaster and prevent the realm’s collapse.

This is an enhanced adaptation of the NES game rather than a direct conversion. It includes two additional action stages and two extra abilities: a homing projectile and an astral projection technique that allows Firebrand to scout nearby areas. It was scheduled to be released in North America in July 1993 but was eventually canceled.
