Overview
Commonly considered the earliest progenitor of first-person shooters (FPS), Battlezone is a single-player tank combat game presented from a first-person perspective. The player drives across an open battlefield, locating and destroying enemy vehicles while attempting to survive for as long as possible and achieve a high score.
The original arcade version uses two control levers that independently operate the tank’s left and right treads. Moving both forward or backward drives the tank in the corresponding direction, while moving one tread faster than the other turns it. Pushing one lever forward and the other backward causes the tank to rotate in place. A button on the right lever fires the turret gun, although only one shell can be active at a time.
