Overview
Gomoku Narabe Renju is a board game that adapts the traditional Japanese strategy game Renju, a variant of Gomoku, which itself is derived from the ancient board game Go. Instead of capturing territory as in Go, players compete to form a straight line of five stones on a grid board.
Two players, or one player against the computer, take turns placing black and white stones on the intersections of the board. The objective is to be the first to form an unbroken line of exactly five stones horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. To keep the match fair, the first player must follow Renju rules that restrict certain powerful moves, such as creating multiple threats at once or forming lines longer than five. The game ends when one side achieves the five-stone line or the board fills with no winning position.
