Overview
Chrono Regalia is a high-fantasy real-time strategy game developed and released by Sega for arcades (using their ALLS UX hardware) in Japan on February 21, 2019.
Using only the game's touchscreen for its controls, Chrono Regalia has players battling others in a one-on-one match that combines turn-based strategy games with collectible card games. It is unique for its real-time "step" approach, in which player turns are done automatically in a first-come approach. The game later received a major revision on July 24, 2019, titled Chrono Regalia EX, adding a new game mode (Tansaku Mode) and new Units.
Players choose four Units to control, each with a customizable assortment of six cards in their "deck" (including weapons and spells), and must maneuver them across a four-lane bridge in order to directly attack the opponent's character (or "Chronos") while defending their own. Each Unit starts on standby and must be placed on their side of a lane, in which they begin moving forward one tile at a time until they are defeated by an opposing Unit or until they cross the bridge and deal damage to the opponent. Players also have MP and Card gauges, which allow them to play cards from each Unit's hand (or replenish their hand), with each card having special effects. The game also has a limited-use special ability known as "Regalia", which utilizes its own gauge.
Similar to other games with a collectible card system, players can earn new cards of different rarities through a gacha system. Also, similar to other Sega networked arcade games at the time, it utilized IC cards and the ALL.Net online service for online multiplayer and persistent player stats. These were later discontinued on March 31, 2020, significantly reducing the game's functionality.
