Overview
Honeybug is a 1-player arcade game for the BBC Micro.
The player helps protect a beehive by defending it from weevils, placing different bees, and killing runaway larva. At the beginning of a level, the player is given the number of grubs and honey cells they're required to fill to complete the level. The player fills sections of nest and honeycomb.
The player controls a probe, that can select from different eggs at the bottom of the screen. These eggs can be empty, contain dangerous weevils, or include bees that can be placed in the hive. If a weevil appears, the player must search the periphery of the screen for a letter, and press it, before the weevil damages the hive. Bees can include drones, soldiers, grubs, queens, and workers, which have a different influence on the hive. Runaway larva block the path of the probe and prevent the placement of more bees. If the bottom row fills with larva the player can not place more bees, and the game is over. There are three skill levels.
