GhostControl Inc. is a ghost hunting simulator combining managerial tasks with turn-based combat and some RPG elements. The managerial part is similar to a minimal version of Theme Hospital, while combat can be compared to the old X-COM games. The game was originally funded through Kickstarter and features pixelated hand-drawn graphics to create a retro look. The game's settings and mechanics remind a lot of the The Real Ghostbusters TV series: clients call for help, and if the player accepts the offer, they have to hunt down the ghosts and capture all of them with traps – which will only work if the ghosts have been weakened enough. Each team member gets two action points per round which can be used to move around, shoot the ghosts or lay out traps. Each trap can only store a limited amount of ghosts – they can be emptied in the headquarters however, returning some ectoplasm. Team members also have various stats like sanity, strength or intelligence which can either be trained in the headquarters or gained through experience during combat. One notable difference with the TV series is that players will have to pay for any damage caused by the team or the ghosts. Money earned through successfully completed missions can be spent on healing the crew, expanding the base (or renting a bigger one), hiring new team members, buying or researching new equipment and fuel for the car (or a faster one). Moving around on the map will also reveal other ghost hunter companies moving around the city, who will snatch missions if not responded to fast enough.
