Mahjong Daiyogen

Overview

Mahjong Daiyogen (translated as "Mahjong Great Prophecy - This Fortune-Teller Gal Brings Luck") is a coin-operated adult-themed arcade video game developed and published by the Japanese developer Video System Co. Ltd. in March 1990. The game stands out for combining traditional Japanese Riichi Mahjong with a distinct tarot card fortune-telling aesthetic and random bonus item mechanics.

Like many Japanese arcade mahjong titles of its era, Mahjong Daiyogen featured high-stakes difficulty where computer opponents frequently held highly advantageous hands. Defeating an opponent rewarded the player with cutscenes featuring anime-style stripping and nudity. If a player lost, the opponent would taunt them, prompting the player to insert more coins to continue the match.
