Archaic

The player takes on the role of a great hero thrown into an underground cave system by a mad scientist who wants to take over the world. The scientist plans to do this with the help of a bizarre device hidden in the maze of cave rooms the player finds himself in. The only way to stop the scientist is to find and destroy this device. To do so, the player has 256 rooms to explore, some of which contain traps and hostile creatures. The player's character has a pickaxe, which he can throw at enemies and destroy stones that block passages. The throw can be made by choosing a downward direction. Some creatures are invulnerable to the pickaxe, and losing a life ends the game.
