Overview
Match It II is a puzzle arcade game developed by Tamtex and published by Irem in 1993. The game features boards filled with colorful tiles—jewels, letters, or mahjong pieces—set against decorative backgrounds inspired by Chinese art and symbolism.
The player removes all tiles on the screen by selecting matching pairs. Two identical tiles can be cleared only if they can be connected by a path that bends no more than twice and does not pass through other tiles. When all tiles are cleared, the stage is complete.
Three single-player modes provide different visual themes and difficulty levels:
- Fantasy: the beginner mode, featuring bright jewel-like symbols.
- Girls: an intermediate mode using alphabet tiles that reveal a portrait when cleared.
- Professional: the advanced mode using mahjong-style characters.
A separate Match by Two mode allows two players to compete simultaneously within any theme. Scoring rewards consecutive removals of identical tile types. A limited undo function lets the player reverse the last move, and a hint option can reveal a valid pair at the cost of time. The game ends when the timer expires or no valid pairs remain.
