Real Mahjong Haihai

Overview

Real Mahjong Haihai (リアル麻雀牌牌) is a Japanese adult-oriented arcade game developed by Alba and released in November 1985. Translating roughly to "Real Mahjong Tile-Tile", it relies on traditional Riichi Mahjong mechanics but gained notoriety in arcade centres for its specific reward loop: defeating opponent AI characters rewards the player with revealing, pixelated imagery of them.

At the start of the game, players are greeted by a character selection screen featuring three different female computer opponents (labeled A, B, and C). The game uses authentic Mahjong rules where you draw, discard, and attempt to build a winning hand. Winning rounds grants you a high score screen and visual rewards, while losing or forcing a draw (流局) impacts your overall point pool.
