Overview

Rescue was produced by Stern Electronics in 1982. Rescue the parachuting soldiers that have fallen into the sea and transfer them to an island for safety. Avoid the enemy helicopters, ships and submarines that try to shoot you down. You are the pilot of a helicopter flying over dangerous waters. Your mission is to rescue a varying number of paratroopers from the water below and you must do this before they are eaten by sharks. Beware of enemy submarines, ships and helicopters. You must avoid or destroy them. After have have rescued a certain number of paratroopers, you must let them off safely on an island. The game uses multi-level parallax scrolling to give the illusion of depth. The game may have even been the inspiration for Choplifter. The game serves up the action via dual joystick controls. At the left, an eight-directional joystick controls the flight of your helicopter while a complementary joystick on the right gives you eight-directional firepower to use against your approaching enemies. There is also a Bomb button just to the left of the right joystick that is used to drop bombs onto your enemies. Rescue the men and bring them to the island. Rescuing the soldiers under fire awards bonus points. Unload the men by landing on the island. Shooting enemies awards points: helicopter, 250 shark, 75 submarine, 125 ship, 180. Each man that safely arrives on an island is worth 500 points.
